Ask Dr. Bug - Ants

I am using Advance Liquid Ant Bait for ghost ants. They have been feeding on it for 2 weeks, but are still coming. How long does it take?
Colonies of ghost ants are considered moderate to small in size with multiple queens. Workers are fond of honeydew produced by aphids and will tend and protect this insect. Multiple colonies will reside in the same area.
The Advance Liquid Ant Bait with its sugar base is an excellent choice for this ant. The active ingredient is boric acid and is a slow acting chemical. This is necessary to prevent bait shyness and for a complete sharing of the bait throughout the colony. The size of the colony or the multitude of colonies will determine the needed feeding time.
I can not give you an exact time period for elimination but as long as they are still feeding on the bait, this is a good sign. A population drop will be your first sign of the start of the elimination process. If this is not noticed, it can be assumed that there is more than one colonies in the area and continual access to the bait is essential. Additional stations may need to be placed to ensure that all colonies have access to the bait.
Patience is essential. |
