BALD-FACED HORNET

Biology

  • Length: 5/8 to ¾ inches
  • Black in color with accents of an ivory white color on the tip of the abdomen and on the face
  • Fly very fast
  • Active predators of other insects
  • Very aggressive wasps

Distribution/Habits

  • Build a strong, gray, round nest between the sizes of a softball and basketball using cellulose
  • Nest contains many rows of combs where larvae develop.
  • Nests are suspended from an stable object i.e. trees, overhangs or bushes.
