Biology

  • Adults are ½ to 1 ½ inches long.
  • Humpbacked in appearance
  • Thread-like antennae are much longer than the body.
  • They are brown in color.
  • They make no chirping sounds.
  • Wingless or with vestigial wings

Distribution/Habits

  • Found worldwide
  • Indoors they are found in damp, moist areas such as basements, crawl spaces and garages.
  • Outside they are found in mulch beds, railroad ties, wood piles, etc.
  • Very good jumping ability
