CANADIAN GOOSE (Branta canadensis)

Biology

  • Length: Up to 45 inches
  • Brownish-gray in color with a black neck and head
  • Usually monogamous for life

Distribution/Habits

  • Found throughout the United States and Canada
  • Prefer to nest on dry ground but near water and feeding areas
  • Eat roots, tubers, leaves of various food types, alfalfa, oats, rye, barley, wheat, sorghum and corn
  • These geese have become a nuisance on golf courses, beaches, parks, and playing fields.
