EASTERN CHIPMUNKS (Tamias striatus)
Biology
- Length: 9-10 ½ inches including tail
- Weight: 2.5 to 3 ounces
- Has three dark dorsal stripes
Distribution/Habits
- Hibernates in fall, become active in spring
- Breed during spring and summer
- Normally produce two litters a year with 2 to 7 young per litter
- Prefer open wooded areas that provide trees and plants, food, nuts and seeds
- Will nest beneath garages, wood sheds and other outbuildings
