FIREBRATS (Thermobia domestica)
Biology
- Length: ½ inch
- Grayish or brown with dark markings
- Wingless, flat insect
- Tapered, carrot-shaped body
- Long antennae, and three long bristles on posterior end of abdomen
Distribution/Habits
- Prefer to live outdoors under rocks, leaves, woodpiles and mulch
- They can be found indoors in high temperature areas (usually 90º F or higher) such as boiler rooms, ovens, water heaters and attics.
- They will consume or damage fabric, paper, books and wall paper.
